Days of the week
Lunedì —> Monday
Martedì —> Tuesday
Mercoledì —> Wednesday
Giovedì —> Thursday
Venerdì —> Friday
Sabato —> Saturday
Domenica —> Sunday
- The use of the definite article before the name’s day of the week it is only made when you indicate a repetition or an habitual actions happening that day.
-The names of the week are never capitalized and the only name of the week that have female gender is Sunday ( domenica ) .
- no preposition is used when referring to a day as equivalent to on
Ex. Io vado al mare lunedì —> I am going to the beach on Monday .
If you want to ask what day is today you can say:
ex. Che giorno è domani? —> What day is tomorrow ?
Domani è venerdì —> Tomorrow is Friday
The months of the year
Gennaio —> January
Febbraio —> February
Marzo —> March
Aprile —> April
Maggio —> May
Giugno —> June
Luglio —> July
Agosto —> August
Settembre —> September
Ottobre —> October
Novembre —> November
Dicembre —> December
The names of the month are not capitalized. In Italian with put a or in + the month name to indicate in which month an action has been taken place.
What is today’s day ? —> Che data è oggi ? Quanti ne abbiamo oggi ? Che numero è oggi? Qual’è la data di oggi ?
The seasons
Primavera —> Spring
Estate —> Summer
Autunno —> Autumn
Inverno —> Winter
The name of the seasons are not capitalized and the gender of the season are :
-Female ( primavera - estate )
- Male ( autunno - inverno )
Parts of the day
L’alba —> sunrise
La mattina —> morning
Il pomeriggio —> afternoon
La sera —> evening
Il tramonto —> sunset
La notte —> night
